Solids

Opals that have merely undergone cutting and polishing to become gemstones are referred to as solid opals. The value of these opals varies depending on the vibrancy and play of colour, patterns and cut of the opal.    

Doublets

A doublet consists of two layers that are glued together. A thin slice of opal, often crystal opal, is set on top of a black backdrop composed of glass, plastic, or ironstone. This black backing allows the various colours to stand out providing a fantastic visual effect.

Triplets

Triplets feature a black backdrop with an opal slice that is glued to it, similar to doublets. Then, a transparent, dome-shaped cap made of glass, plastic, or quartz is placed on top to amplify the exquisite range of colours.

 Black Opal

The most valued and sought after opal, black opals have a distinguished black body tone which allows the mesmerising, vibrant kaleidoscope of colour arrangements to stand out more than lighter opals.

Dark Opal

Dark opals consist of a darker or greyish body tone which isn't considered black, white nor crystal. The beautiful colour combinations can consist of aquamarines, mint greens and sun-kissed orange.

White Opal

This precious stone has been valued since ancient times and are distinguished by their pale white and milky body tone. White opals are the most common type of opal and have a stunning array of multicoloured patterns.

Boulder Opal
Boulder opal is made from either sandstone or ironstone with a seam of opal that formed inside the boulder.

Crystal Opal
If opal is completely transparent or translucent, it may appear as though you are staring through glass. Black, dark, or white are the three body tones that crystal opal can have.

Matrix Opal
Opal that is found as a network of veins, filling of spaces, or in between host rock grains is known as matrix opal.
